Happy Birthday! (Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth) — Opiates/Opioids Discussion

The Dandy Warhols – Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth (1997)

Dear White Trash Junkie Crowd,
Dear pathetic drug abusers,
My fellow Americans!

Those of you following RC SCENE on Twitter, which is and will always be first, because… it’s Twitter, might already have noticed and celebrated with 2mg of Eitzolam dissolved in a tiny bottle of strong liquor for which you paid as little as 150 USD: I am back. We are back. Not quite in full strength, not yet, but let’s do this!

Why so lazy, Daisy?

This time, it was no health issue like in Spring when I got blind after having spent all nights answering your emails that made me decide to go offline; No, it was an argument with Alex (TRC), that I experienced a devastating disappointment; It was my friend S. who lives by the sea but due to that COVID shit going on still suffered depression and asked about a substance that I would and could not take 2 days in a row because it is too caustic. One email of about 2,500 that I, of course had instantly read, but until today would not know how and what to answer.

Then, there was my birthday, that very day, which I, it started with 12 and has become a dear tradition since, as always spent with trying to kill myself. I don’t know, what I did wrong this time, I could swear I had somewhere read that electricity would be dangerous. It probably was, but I deal with this stupid disabilty of not thinking in such situations but somehow finding a solution and managed to leave that circuit without fully unloading at once. I still find breathing a little dificult, but I am fine. The next day, I hear my father is in hospital and will never recover.

Thank you for sticking with RC SCENE

I can’t do anything about it and that hurts, but calling Sellkies to complain about life won’t help either. I called William, but he picked up, called me names and hung up. So, I restored the computer (I had deleted everything, I didn’t want to see or hear or read from you), and after weeks that the site had stood still, no comments approved, no monologues, no news, no nothing, I checked the site’s traffic and it was down by almost two thirds. By the end of the month, however, it was a plus again: As always, RC SCENE had surpassed itself.

That made me happy, thank you!

Oh, I almost forgot: Shout-outs to my fans over there at the opiate celebration sub (“Constitution grants me the right to OD on the dirty pavement of my choice!”) enabled by hypocrite Reddit who make a fortune with you.

You are simply the best!

Heroin was considered so cool in the 90s that I was actually afraid to have a song dissing junkies. But who’s gonna bitch about that? Junkies? They don’t read. [Laughs.] The junkies are fucking losers, they just crawl into a hole. (Courtney Taylor)

Dear fellow Americans,

The song above and its lyrics below are about The Dandy Warhols’ lead singer Courtney Taylor’s Ex-girlfriend who, while he was on tour, spent his money to become a heroin addict. But let him tell the story:

“I went on the first Dandys tour and when I got home, my girlfriend of three and a half years, she’d shot dope once with the singer of my previous band (who I was a drummer in) she shot up once, and boom: complete junkie. Full-on, down under the Burnside Bridge with the Mexican heroin dealers.”

Courtney Taylor-Taylor

“I was just, oh my God. How am I gonna get this crazed animal out of my house. First she had to storm into the bathroom to pump her veins full of fucking junk, and then get sugared up, and then come back out with renewed vigor. It was one of the saddest and most disgusting examples of human degradation I’ve ever seen. And I couldn’t actually do anything about it. I had to just get her out. Somehow I manipulated her into wanting to leave and I got back in that living room of the apartment Peter and I lived, the apartment we started the band in, and I picked up the guitar and it just started coming out. I had the digital recorder set up in the living room, and the whole thing just came out of me in one go.”

Courtney Taylor-Taylor

“I hear she is still alive. But also the Jonestown Massacre are junkies and they survived and people don’t really survive heroin. They used to say William S. Burroughs was the only living junkie, everyone else is a junkie in the grave or on their way to it. Heroin was considered so cool in the 90s that I was actually afraid to have a song dissing junkies. But who’s gonna bitch about that? Junkies? They don’t read. [Laughs.] The junkies are fucking losers, they just crawl into a hole.”

Courtney Taylor-Taylor

“They don’t buy records, they don’t interact, they’re not cool, they’re not part of the real world, they’re fuckin’ junkies. They just become little animals, vermin. Back in the old days, they’d just steal your CDs and sell it for dope. You know, the difference between a junkie and a meth-head? A junkie will steal all your CDs. A meth-head will steal all your CDs then come back and help you look for them. That’s a very 90s joke.”

Courtney Taylor-Taylor

“To me, growing up in the 90s, I can’t even imagine that heroin was cool because Kurt seemed like the ultimate cautionary tale. It didn’t seem glamorous, it seemed like the most horrific thing ever.”

Then you must have missed the Vogue spread called “Heroin Chic.”

“When I met the singer from Cake [ John McCrea ] after that song came out he said, ‘I can’t believe you did it. I’ve been trying to write that song for two years, but it’s always, you know, <Oh, when you stick that spike into your vein, you stick a spike into my heart. > I can’t believe how absolutely condescending you are about it.’ There’s a lot of pain involved in that, but fortunately I’m just a shitty guy to just be fucking rude about it, you know.

I’ve tried every drug, but I would never cross the border of my skin. I’ve ingested things knowing that if something goes wrong, I’m gonna throw it up, and I’m gonna be throwing up and convulsing for maybe a day. I’m fine with snorting, smoking, drinking, and eating weird mushrooms and shit that grows in the ground, but puncturing your skin and sticking it straight into your bloodstream… I’m not really sure how anyone thinks that’s a good idea.

The whole interview “Sex, Kale, and Monogamy: My First Date with The Dandy Warhols’ Courtney Taylor-Taylor” from June, 2016 is still available on vice.com.

Kim Taylor Bennett is happy The Dandy Warhols were her first ever interview. She’s on Twitter.

LYRICS

I never thought you’d be a junkie because heroin is so passe

But today, if you think that I don’t know about depression and emotional pain
You’re insane, or you’re a fool who hasn’t paid attention to a word that I say

In a way, I can’t help but feel responsible, I always knew that you were insane
With your pain, but I never thought you’d be a junkie because heroin is so passe, hey

Heroin is so passe, hey
Heroin is so passe, hey, hey
Aaaah

So passe, nowadays
You never thought you’d get addicted, just be cooler in an obvious way

I could say, shouldn’t you have got a couple piercings and decided maybe that you were gay

In a way, I can’t help but feel responsible, I always knew that you were insane
With your pain, but I never thought you’d be a junkie because heroin is so passe, hey

Heroin is so passe, hey
Heroin is so passe, hey
Heroin is so passe, hey, hey
Ah ah ah ah, aaah, aaah, aaaah
Ah ah ah ah, aaah, aaah, aaaah
Hey hey hey hey heyyy, heyyy, heyyyyy

I am for real when I say over 7000 ODs within our territorial boundaries in the last 5 years. From my friendly local coroner (who I’ve had the pleasure to talk with)

Table 5: Drugs Involved Among Illicit Drug Toxicity Deaths – 2018-2020. (n=2,003)

– Fentanyl & Analogues = 87.0%

– Cocaine = 48.7%

– Methamphetamine/AMP = 38.4%

– Other Opioids = 31.5%

– Ethyl Alcohol = 29.0%

– Benzodiazepines = 5.8%

– Other Stimulants = 3.0%

Drugs involved are noted by the coroner as being relevant to the death (this data is only available for concluded investigations).

As you can see a lot of poly substance abuse involving Fent in their deaths
(majority found alone at home)

“This stuff killed a long, long time poster and moderator of the harm reduction board Bluelight recently. I hope no matter how strung out you are, you don’t resort to using these opioids.”
